A policeman is among three people mown down and seriously injured by a suspected drink driver who allegedly ploughed into a parked police van.
A woman has been arrested after police say a Renault Megane crashed into the stationary 999 vehicle outside the Black Horse pub in Westgate, Wakefield.
It is believed the officer has suffered very serious leg injuries in the collision at 1.24am on Sunday. There were unconfirmed reports he may lose leg.
All three victims were taken to hospital in a serious condition, while the female suspect escaped with minor injuries.
A 24-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
She is also being held on suspicion of failing to provide a specimen of breath.
West Yorkshire Police said the police officer was on duty at the time of the crash.
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “Police are currently dealing with a road traffic collision which happened on Westgate, Wakefield.
“The incident happened at 0124am (this morning) when a Renault Megane being driven along the road was in collision with a stationary police van.
“Three pedestrians were injured as a result including a serving male police officer who was on duty at the time.
The driver suffered minor injuries.
“All three pedestrians have been taken to hospital in a serious condition.
“Westgate from Mulberry Way to Ings Road remains closed at this time and is likely to remain closed for a considerable time as enquiries remain ongoing.
“Because a police vehicle was involved in the incident it has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
